Meet Dr. Goetz


Laura Goetz, MD, is a triple Board-Certified Preventive Medicine and Obesity Medicine Specialist who directs N-of-1 Medicine, a precision medicine practice with a focus on prevention in Santa Monica, California. 

She offers outstanding care, always bringing a personalized approach to whole-body health.

Her education includes a Master of Public Health, Epidemiology, and Biostatistics from UC Berkeley in California, a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. 

She also completed Middle Eastern Studies at the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies.

Her post-graduate education includes a General Preventive Medicine Residency at UC San Diego in California and a post-fellowship specialization at the Center for Pelvic Floor Disorders in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 

She completed a Colorectal Surgery Fellowship and General Surgery Residency at the University of Minnesota, a General Surgery Residency at Northwestern University (NU) in Chicago, Illinois, and an Internal Medicine Residency at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas.

From 2012 through 2020, she served as an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Molecular Medicine, Scripps Center for Metabolomics, and Scripps Research Institute and is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).

Her volunteer board service includes California Colorectal Cancer Coalition (C4), Voting Member of the San Diego County Medical Society, Secretary of Ugandan North American Medical Society 20, and Founding Member and Treasurer of Global Partners in Anesthesia and Surgery.

Widely respected and recognized for her service, she has received numerous awards, including the COVID-19 ‘Hero of the Week’ Award, TGen in 2020, the American Cancer Society Volunteer Award in 2015, and more. She also served as a Lieutenane Colonel in the United States Army Medical Reserve Corp from 1995 to 2011, inclduing service in Iraq during the Iraq War. 

In addition to her role at N-of-1 Medicine, Dr. Goetz works as a Staff Physician in Preventive Medicine at Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Loma Linda VA Medical Center in Loma Linda, California, as Chief Medical Officer and Interim Chief Executive Officer at Net.bio, and as the Medical Deputy for the $101Million XPRIZE Healthspan Competition.

Dr. Goetz aims to set precedents in personalized patient care by merging scientific and clinical approaches to improving and sustaining whole-person health.
